Access MD is always accessible to our patients through the telephone, but our offices offices will be closed for the most part from December 24th to January 3, 2016.
We look forward to serving you, your family, and your friends in the coming year.
As you know, Access MD is a long-time supporter of Mobile’s own Camp Rap-A-Hope. The camp supports children in our area who have or have had cancer.
Local15 just ran a great story on Camp Rap-A-Hope, including mention of Access MD. You can see the video clip here.
If you wish to support the camp directly, please visit their website here. We are proud of everything the Camp does for the children it serves.
AARP and other companies have been marketing Medicare “Advantage” and “Complete” programs, touting the benefits of such insurance programs and how “valuable” they have become to senior citizens. These programs are not the same as “Original” Medicare so beware of the sales pitches.
The marketing companies don’t bother to mention the salesmen (and pharmacies) make a commission from each person they sign-up. Additionally, for many reasons, Access MD does not accept Medicare Advantage/Complete. So before signing up with any insurance company for one of these programs, please do your homework on the impact they may have on your healthcare.
Access MD will be closed Wednesday through Friday of next week in observance of Thanksgiving. Of course, we are always reachable by telephone should you need us.
The Turkey Trot for Hope 5k and Gobble Wobble for Fun Run are scheduled for Thanksgiving Day morning at 8:00 AM at the Spanish Plaza downtown.
As you may know, proceeds go to Camp Rap-A-Hope here in Mobile, which is a camp benefiting children who have cancer.

Recently we started working with some of our patients based in part on the information they are sending us through a Fitbit device.
As you may already know, Fitbit is a small wearable monitor (similar to a wrist watch) that can keep you informed as to the number of steps you take in any given day, the hours you sleep, heart rate and other information, which indicates how you are doing with some lifestyle choices. It is truly a remarkable product if you like technology based information and links well with iPhone devices.
By having access to this information we can better gauge the exercise and health situation of Access MD patients who choose to participate. Fitbit is not a panacea, but is another tool that allows us to stay in touch with you so you can stay healthier and lead a fuller life.
Please feel free to connect with me through Fitbit if you are an Access MD patient. We joined in October, and are learning new features every week. Please share your tips if you have any, we think this will be a fun way to keep in touch over the holidays and in 2016.
One recent study we ran across suggests that continuing to work rather than retiring might lead to better mental and physical health for those people of retirement age.
The study was published in the journal “Preventing Chronic Disease”. According to this study, people who were working were three times as likely to have good health than those of the same age who had retired.
This would seem to be make sense, as an active mind and body can lead to better health.
Thank you for visiting our website.
As you can see, the website includes general information on concierge medicine, a “Frequently Asked Questions” page, and a blog which we update on a weekly basis. You, your friends, and your family members who might be interested in exploring the value of working with us will find great information.
Of course, we always welcome personal visits to our offices as well.
We have had a few more local companies contact us recently to find out how Access MD can help keep their employees healthy and fit. They were surprised that we have already developed a corporate program for local companies.
Some basic information can be found on our website at www.accessmdmobilecom. Scroll down to the bottom of this page for a short review.
Examples of corporate services include annual exams, smoking cessation programs, blood pressure checks, and winter flu shots.
Please contact us for more information. We can tailor a plan specific to your corporate needs. Working with us could actually save your company money.
