  • The Center for Dermatology

    Posted on February 17, 2015

Just a short note on our neighbor…..

Most of you know that our offices are located next to the Center for Dermatology, a Mobile-based dermatology clinic. I have known Drs. Amy Morris and Dena Howell for many years now. You may already know that the medicine they are practicing next door is highly regarded by many people in Mobile.

If you do need assistance in the dermatology area, please contact them at anytime and let them know you are a patient of Access MD. For more information on their practice, including what they offer,  you can visit their website here.

  • Picking Up the Phone is What We Call Telemedicine

    Posted on February 10, 2015

One of the themes in the world of heath care these days is how telemedicine is reshaping primary health care.

What is telemedicine? Its the use of technology to diagnose and treat patients through the use of the telephone, email, texting, and smart-phone apps.

The benefits from telemedicine are great. Savings come from less waiting time in a doctor’s office to having the ability to continually monitor patient symptoms through a smart-phone so that issues can be diagnosed quickly.

We are always looking for new technologies that can be applied for use here at Access MD. We also listen to our patients to find out what would make our practice more effective for their healthcare needs.

But having said that, we have been practicing telemedicine since we opened the practice. This concept is not new to us. Our telemedicine procedures are quite simple – patients pick up the phone and call us, and if they need an appointment, we make one. It’s that simple.

As new technologies become available, we will add those technologies to what we do here at Access MD. In the meantime though, we will focus on what we have been focusing on, and that is keeping a small patient base and using the old-fashion phone to communicate when appropriate.

  • The value Access MD offers

    Posted on January 31, 2015

Of course we are not accountants and everyone’s financial situation is different. Having said that, we do talk to our patients and want to pass along one theme we hear time and time again.

That theme is that premiums and deductibles continue to rise. Annual deductibles for insurance can now approach $10,000 or more for some families. Premiums are rising too, and services have become a bit more limited.

We mention this because it makes our annual fee an even better value on a relative basis. Pairing the appropriate insurance policy with an Access MD membership might give you the package you need for both excellent healthcare and economic benefit.

Please contact us for a review of what services you receive by being an Access MD patient.

  • Why your referrals are important to us

    Posted on January 24, 2015

As you know Access MD is always happy when we see a new patient that comes in by way of referral. Why is that? Here are the three main reasons:

    1. Referrals allow us to save on time and costs for marketing, keeping our fees low.

    2. We enjoy working with friends and family members our patients already know. This builds a “family feeling” to the practice, which in this day of impersonal medicine is something we value a great deal.

    3. Finally, it lets us know we are doing a good job for our patients if they are willing to recommend us, and doing a good job is most important to us.

Please continue to tell your friends and family about Access MD. We always wish to meet perspective members in our offices before they join, and you should know that we treat them just as we do our patients.

  • One more note on New Years resolutions

    Posted on January 12, 2015

We have already posted a few ideas here on New years resolutions. Hopefully any you have made are working well for you. But we did want to add this link to the blog because included in it is a great idea on how to make resolutions that work.

What is the idea? The author speaks of “microresolutions”. In other words, resolutions that are easy to do and take little time. This makes it a bit easier to stick with your new years resolutions. After you have incorporated that microresolution into your daily routine, you can then add more resolutions to build on the first one.  In the need, you might have more success using this system that any other.
