Access MD will be closed Wednesday through Friday of next week in observance of Thanksgiving. Of course, we are always reachable by telephone should you need us.
The Turkey Trot for Hope 5k and Gobble Wobble for Fun Run are scheduled for Thanksgiving Day morning at 8:00 AM at the Spanish Plaza downtown.
As you may know, proceeds go to Camp Rap-A-Hope here in Mobile, which is a camp benefiting children who have cancer.

Recently we started working with some of our patients based in part on the information they are sending us through a Fitbit device.
As you may already know, Fitbit is a small wearable monitor (similar to a wrist watch) that can keep you informed as to the number of steps you take in any given day, the hours you sleep, heart rate and other information, which indicates how you are doing with some lifestyle choices. It is truly a remarkable product if you like technology based information and links well with iPhone devices.
By having access to this information we can better gauge the exercise and health situation of Access MD patients who choose to participate. Fitbit is not a panacea, but is another tool that allows us to stay in touch with you so you can stay healthier and lead a fuller life.
Please feel free to connect with me through Fitbit if you are an Access MD patient. We joined in October, and are learning new features every week. Please share your tips if you have any, we think this will be a fun way to keep in touch over the holidays and in 2016.
One recent study we ran across suggests that continuing to work rather than retiring might lead to better mental and physical health for those people of retirement age.
The study was published in the journal “Preventing Chronic Disease”. According to this study, people who were working were three times as likely to have good health than those of the same age who had retired.
This would seem to be make sense, as an active mind and body can lead to better health.

As we all know, Mobile has plenty to offer to its residents. But sometimes it’s hard to know exactly what your choices are at any given time.
Here is a great site which you might want to bookmark. Its called Mobile.org, and it covers a lot of what is going on in Mobile and our surrounding areas.
Upcoming events include the Mobile Fashion Week and USA Jaguars Football. You can even setup your own personal email alert system to be notified of scheduled events.
Every now and then we find an Internet article which clearly lays out the benefits of being involved with a concierge practice such as Access MD of Mobile.
This past month we found one on the Healthline website entitled “The Future of Healthcare Could be in Concierge Medicine”.
The article makes the following points:
1. Concierge practices serve many fewer patients than a traditional practice serves. Of course, this means that you can make an appointment and gain access to care much more easily with a concierge practice.
2. Given the rapidly escalating deductibles in traditional healthcare plans, working with a concierge practice can actually save money for the patient.
3. Concierge medicine is not just about “sick care”, but also about staying healthy and living life to the fullest.

If you work with Access MD already, you already realize these benefits. But it is always good to see more press coverage and wider availability for all people for concierge medicine.
This is a short article and video from CNBC on the advantages of working with a concierge medical practice such as Access MD Mobile. Benefits listed include limitless access to a doctor, compatibility with high deductible insurance plans, and longer visits.

Higher premiums. Higher deductibles. Less coverage.
If you own a business which self-insures you know how expensive health insurance is these days.
The Access MD brand of medicine can help you control your bottom line. By offering a concierge package to your employees, claims can go down, and this means rates will go down as well.
This is a great article on the benefits of this strategy.
Most people think that private, concierge medical care (or direct pay medicine as it is sometimes called) is for the senior citizens among us. In today’s world, it makes sense for everyone.
